Should be very helpful to many. It sounds like ive been fortunate with gta4. It seems pretty happy on my pc in terms of stability. However its performance dropped after i restarted my PC for some reason and i had to reduce the texture and render settings from high to medium to get a respectable framerate at 1280X1024. However the change allowed me to get my draw distance from 32 to 100 without too much of a hit. I have shadows at about 8 and detail draw distance at 50.

Sniper20071986 Looked over your case and it may seem you have outdated graphics card drivers. If that's not the problem, then maybe you need Microsoft Framework 3.5. Try install all the required things like Flash, etc. Im just throwin a suggestion here, so reply if it works, and reply back with your system specs if it doesnt. Sniper20071986 Same thing was happening to me. I needed to download the beta drivers for my graphics card and now it works like a charm.

I know, I know, resurrecting a year old thread and everything, but this is an extremely helpful thread, and starting a brand new one just for what I've got to add seems pointless. But I just wanted to give some info on the 'RGSC encountered a problem and needs to close' issue (it has no real solution). Well, it seems to be a NET Framework issue. After I encountered this issue, I uninstalled and tried to reinstall the NET, but couldn't - I encountered a similar error while trying to install NET 3.5. I couldn't 'update' it (through Windows Update), couldn't do anything. I eventually suceeded by downloading the update and installing it through 'Shut Down' option in Windows. It installed fine, updated (to 3.5 SP1) fine and Social Club started working.

So I hope this helps people who still play GTA IV. This is a great thread. I wanted to add a miraculous configuration I came across that I highly recommend to give a try: If you haven't already made a commandline.txt then open up notepad.

Inside notepad paste this in there.refreshrate 30 -framelimit 1 Next, save the file as commandline.txt Drag and drop the commandline.txt file into /Program Files/Rockstar Games/Grand Theft Auto IV folder.
